Teenage Girl's Room

One of the first things I wanna do is Taylor's room.  Taylor is my 16-yo (going on 25 - you moms of teens know what I mean) daughter.  She's not into the "old crap" as she likes to call it.  However, she loves Marilyn Monroe, vintage pin-ups, etc.  Here's a jewelry box I made for her for Christmas.  It was just a plain wooden box that I got from the Goodwill for $2.  I painted it black and decoupaged some pin-up pics that I printed from the net and lined it with scrapbook paper for the inside, added a little bling and voila!  What do you think?  I've been trying to decide if we should add little feet to it.  Would you or would you call this done?

Taylor wants her room purple and black.  When she first told me this, I thought it sounded horrible - like a bruise :-), but then I saw some bedding in those colors and I've gotten excited about it.  Here's the bedding that she got as a Christmas gift:

I'm not sure that this actually shows the "real" color - it's a little darker than this - almost like a wine color.

I redid this little table for Taylor's room too.  It's just one of those little cheap tables with plastic legs, but I think it turned out pretty cute.  I cleaned it up and gave it a coat of primer and let that dry.  Then I decoupaged the top with different colors of purple tissue paper and scrapbook paper and pics of 30s, 40s Hollywood stars that I printed.  We just use a mixture of glue and water for our decoupage medium - I like Modge Podge, but this way is a lot cheaper.  I think it turned out pretty cute and the most important thing is that Ms. T liked it!

Here's a cool lightswitch cover that I got from a craft fair in Florida:

The colors don't really match, but I really liked it.

Taylor's room was originally a greyish color.  We repainted it with Mauve Melody by ColorPlace (from Wal-Mart).  I really like the color.  Ms. T thought that it was going to be too light, but she liked it too after it was done.

Taylor wants some sort of a canopy-ish type thing for her bed.  This will cover the window at the end and then just go out a little ways.  She has that ceiling fan there so we can't cover the whole bed.  I've got some ideas about how we'll do this and hopefully they'll work.  What would you do?

This pic's a little dark, but I think you get the idea.

Okay, gotta go and get to work on the room.  I'm not sure how long it will take us to get it done.  I'll be out of town next week, but we'll keep ya posted on how it's going.

So, here we go!

Hi there, nice to meet ya.  Wow, I'm so excited.  I've been looking at this blogging thing for quite a while and I've finally decided just to jump in there and do it - I figure that's the only way I'm gonna learn.  If you read the "About Me" section, you already know that I have a 100-year-old farmhouse that's gonna be my main project.
Isn't she a beaut?

I was so happy when I found this house for sale, but I didn't think my hubby would approve since it's sort of out in the country, but HE DID!  Yay!  Thankfully the previous owners had done the expensive type renovations before we bought it (like plumbing, electricity, roof, etc.), so we don't have to do those things and I can just focus on making it home for us.

One of the coolest things is that there's also a cottage on our property.  This is gonna be great!  It's gonna be my shabby chic get-away - lots of pink, frills and roses.  I'm sure none of the men will want to come inside - hehe.

Sooo, I've already been collecting lots of goodies for deco from the Goodwill, Salvation Army and thrift stores.  Shhh ... it's all hidden away in the water heater closet for now - don't tell Mr. C anyone.

I've been reading lots of blogs and loving some of the really cool stuff that these very talented people are doing and I have to admit I've copied a few already.

I've seen a lot of people doing things with birds, but I really liked the idea of the beans in the jar and I'm sorry to say that I don't remember where I saw that.  If I run across it again, I'll be sure to give them credit.  The bird pics came from The Graphics Fairy.  http://www.graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/  If you haven't already, make sure you check her out - she has some awesome stuff and the greatest thing is that it's all FREE!!  That's my kind of price tag.

I've been gathering furniture to make new again (either shabby new or new, new - mostly depends on where it's gonna go).

This is just a small portion

I've bought loads of oops paint from Wal-Mart, Lowe's and Home Depot.  Now I just have to get started.  I figured this blog would be a good way to keep me on track.  I tend to start one project and then get sidetracked and start 10 more before I finish the first! So, anyhoo, if you'll help me stay focused, I'm hoping that we can inspire each other - maybe you have some projects to complete too?

Stay tuned for my first project which will be my daughter's room - what do you think of a purple and black color combination?
